The New York Knicks, short for Knickerbockers, are a professional basketball team based in New York City. They play in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The Knicks are one of only two teams of the original National Basketball Association still located in its original city (the other being the Boston Celtics). The Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League merged in 1949 to form the NBA.

The Knicks' first game was played on November 1, 1946 against the Toronto Huskies at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens, where the Knicks won 68-66. The Knicks were consistent playoff contenders in their early years. In the 1969-70 season, the Knicks had a then-NBA record 18 straight victories en route to 60-22 record, which was the best regular season record in the team's history. After defeating the Bullets in the Eastern Division semifinals and the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Division finals, the Knicks defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in seven games to capture their first NBA title.

The Atlanta Hawks compete in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association. The organization was founded in 1946, so as you can imagine they have won quite a few games over the years. For this reason, the Hawks have built up quite a fan base from one side of the country to the next.

The Hawks play their home games at Philips Arena. This venue opened in 1999, and that was the year that the Hawks began playing there. Although the Hawks have yet to win the NBA Championship, they have had some success in the past. They won their conference four times; 1957, 1958, 1960, and 1961. Additionally, they have also won 14 division titles. So even though they have never won the big one, the Hawks are working towards that goal year in and year out.
