Opened in 1988, the Palace of Auburn Hills has been the host to many great sporting events, concerts, and shows.
Over the years the Palace of Auburn Hills has had many tenants call it home. At this time the Detroit Pistons of the NBA and the Detroit Shock of the WNBA are the only tenants remaining. At one time the Detroit Vipers, Safari, Rockers, and Fury also used The Palace for sporting events.
One of the main advantages of the Palace of Auburn Hills over other venues is the sheer amount of people who can pack the arena. For basketball games The Palace can hold more than 22,000 and for concerts more than 24,000 people if they are center stage based.
When the Palace of Auburn Hills opened it was equipped with 180 luxury suites. While this was seen as a bit much back in the 1980's it has become commonplace since then. But one thing is for sure; they have not had any problems renting them out year in and year out.
The Palace of Auburn Hills is currently the largest NBA arena, and for this reason the Pistons have been able to have the highest average attendance numbers in the league for the past three years.
