Verizon Center Information:
The Verizon Center is an indoor arena located in Washington, D.C. This multipurpose venue is named after its sponsor, Verizon Communications. Since opening its doors in December 1997 this venue has played host to thousands of sporting events, concerts, and shows. With so much traffic coming in and out of this arena on a regular basis it is easy to see why so many people regard it as one of the best venues in the eastern part of the country.
The Verizon Center currently has three primary tenants. They include the Washington Wizards of the NBA, the Washington Mystics of the WNBA, and the Washington Capitals of the NHL. Additionally, the Georgetown University men's basketball team also uses the Verizon Center for the majority of their home games. As you can imagine, these basketball and hockey games alone keep this arena busy for a very good part of the year.
The capacity of the Verizon Center is approximately 20,173 fans for basketball games, and 18,277 for hockey. When other events such as concerts and special shows come to town the capacity is right around 20,000.
There have been many top of the line events that have played out inside the Verizon Center since 1997. Some of the more famous ones include the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in 1998, 2002, and 2006, the NBA All Star Game in 2001, the WNBA All Star Game in 2002 and 2007, and many more. Remember, these are just the sporting events that have taken place at the Verizon Center. Every year some of the best musical performers in the country stop by for a show at this venue.
With so much to offer the Verizon Center is one of the busiest venues in the nation's capital year in and year out.
