Although the Wachovia Center is not as new as some of the other venues in major cities, it is still among the most modern in the United States. The Wachovia Center was built in 1996 for approximately $206 million.
There are several tenants that make sure the Wachovia Center gets plenty of action on a regular basis. The four main tenants include the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA, the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL, the Philadelphia Wings of the NLL, and the Philadelphia Soul of the AFL.
The Wachovia Center can seat 21,600 for NBA games, and 19,500 for NHL games. Of course, when other events such as concerts and shows are taking place, these numbers are about the same.
The Wachovia Center has set many records since opening its doors 10 years ago. For instance, in February 2006 it was host to the highest attendance ever at a college basketball game in Pennsylvania. In this game the home team, Villanova, beat the number one ranked University of Connecticut Huskies.
In addition to the top notch sporting events, the Wachovia Center has also played host of many other activities as well. These include the Republican National Convention in 2000 and the X Games in both 2002 and 2003.
